"I never doubted
that equal rights was the right direction.
Most reforms,
most problems are complicated. But to me there is nothing complicated
about ordinary equality."

DENISE &
LOUISA RICHARDSON "SISTERS" AWARD
THE
TIME IS NOW FOR
2010 & BEYOND !
The story of Betty Jean Kling's two
daughters, Denise and Louisa Richardson is one
without end. Their story is the ongoing story of Violence Committed
Against Women everyday in the United States and all over the
world.
In December 2008, Louisa was caring for her sister, Denise, who
was in the final stages of ovarian cancer, when Denise's shotgun-wielding, former
husband, broke into the
home. While Louisa was attempting to call the police, he shot Louisa, striking
her in the face and head.
Denise passed away three months later. Louisa is in a semi-vegetative
state in a nursing home and may never recover from her injuries.
Domestic
Violence committed against a Woman isn't a "private matter"; it is a Domesticated Hate Crime - that
permanently alters the lives of women, children, families and
communities.
Women who "Survive" these crimes, more often than not, require a
collective effort to help them overcome the damages done and restore their lives. Women are
fighting for women all over the world to liberate women from being
subjected to abuse and to, once again - maybe even for the first time -
have the chance to thrive as a human being, as a woman and, most
likely, as an outspoken advocate for a woman's right to be free from
violence and abuse.
Denise and Louisa Richardson can no longer tell their own stories
or cheer women on in this global fight. But, we can - by honoring
individual women and organizations that inspire, offer services and/or
are
advocates as "Sisters"
in the changing of women's lives...
The Denise and
Louisa Richardson Sisters Award has been established as both a
Recognition and Value Award, with each recipient receiving a $500.00
program, education or advocacy
expense award, on behalf of honoring and furthering their dedicated
efforts.
The
Denise and Louisa Richardson
Sisters Award will
be presented for three categories, recognizing a total of five
honorees...
